Place of Happiness
"There’s a hostel where my parents’ old shop used to reside, although, it doesn’t seem like business is booming. The windows are covered with cardboard, almost looks like they’re running some sort of money laundering scheme there. I used to spend a lot of time in this part of town as a kid. It was filled with all kinds of shops, now it’s mainly ‘for rent’ signs and flea markets. The old kiosk from where I used to buy sweets from is boarded up and covered with graffiti. At least the horrendous smell from the factory has stayed the same."
Place of Happiness strives to encapsulate the emotions of someone on the verge of turning 30 years old, while coming to terms with the inevitable passage of time and the fact of mortality. While researching a subjective sense of disconnection towards ones childhood home, it also looks into the collective experience of the slow imminent decline of small towns in the modern age.
